This is my first time posting on a forum like this. I am a 27 year old male. The reason for posting is simply lately I have become more depressed than ever about my weight. I was always a heavy kid and I come from a family where no one is really obese but every one has a "full stomach." I was heavy as a kid. Then in College I was able to drop down to 162. I didnt do it the best way as usually Mondays I would have hockey late. Get fast food after. The Tuesday was school, then work, then another teams games, etc so really I only ate meals Monday, Wednesday, Saturday. I also walked 7-9 miles 5 days a week.

The in 2005 I hurt my knee. Had to have surgery. For 6 months I couldnt do anything. Even the exercise bike was too much. After the 6 months I ballooned up to 220. I was able to get down to 215, then 210 by returning to activities. Then I started lifting weights and added 15 pounds of muscle to go to 225.

Last summer I had problems with my legs from all the walking I had been doing for years with really no rest. For 6 months all I could do was the exercise bike 3 days a week. When I did it I would be on for 90 minutes at a time. My weight stayed at 225. Now of a sudden as I return to my long walks (7.5 miles 3-4 times a week and cardio for 30-45 mins the days in between) I notice I am up to 235. I have stopped lifting the weights as it wasnt good for hockey. I have done diets the past 5 years where for 6 months I wont eat any fast food. My weight didnt change. I have done diets where I'd eat what I wanted. The weight didnt change. It keeps going up but nothing has changed.

My doctor tested my thyroid but nothing showed up poor. I have tried xendarine but it didnt do anything. My doctor said I can try some diet pills that are prescription but I have read many have been linked to cancer.

Last November my uncle, a big guy, passed. I rmeember every one describing him as "the heavy set man." I dont want to be known as that when I die. I am 5'9, 240 pounds. My girlfriend tells me when we are out "show me some one that you feel you look like them." I dont see people as fat or skinny, black or white, etc so it isnt easy. Then I will say that one and she will say I look nothing like that.

I always feel that even though I see others as people and I am not prejudice at all I feel people judge me for being heavy. My depression really kicked in when my girlfriend got the wii fit. it sees me as obese and I dred going on that thing.

I am really just looking for help with how to accept myself. It has finally hit a point where I feel like I am an outkast and if my gf and I ever break up then I will be slim pickens and not good enough for any one looks wise. I am tired of having a good hockey game and having some one on the other team come up to me and say "you're really good... for a big guy."

Nobody is destined to be fat, even if it is in their genes... so take heart in that thought Smile

Plus, right now there are a lot of things you could do to help you lose the weight like dieting, tummy tuck, and exercising. Don't go for pills that may bring a bevy of side effects.

no offense but did you read the whole thing? Yeah let me just come up with between 3 and 8 thousand dollars for a tummy tuck. I'll have to see what px pills my cousin was given. He lost 80 pounds in 8 months and has kept it off for 6 years now

dont get overwhelmed with dieting, im 26 and I was a mean 275 playing college football when I too suffered a knee injury. I stoped playing ball and being active, my football life was over and I was not used to eating small portions since i would burn off the calories at pratice, . My heaviest weight was a disguesting 425 but I was able to turn the table and get down to 370. my goal is 250 and Its hard work but anyone with the right mind set can shed the weight. I too felt woman will not find me attractive. And you are right about woman finding big guys less attractive, we are a group of guys that only attracts a slim picking of females. I was lucky enought to find a beautiful girl and I treated her like a queen and she relaized that everyone has something good about them, even though i was big time overweight she saw passed it. Maybe your lady was just trying to help you out cause she got the vibe you are unhappy about your weight. Millions of people suffer from being over weight, so dont feel like your the only one suffering. this forum is a wonderful place where people with the same problems can vent to one another. I really think your making the right moves to get back on track with your weight . If you have not meet with a dietician , that might be a good idea. Just be sure you are open and honest with your loved ones, so they too can be on the same game page with your goals of weightloss. Dont let your depression get the best of you, you are far from being an outkast, and if you are well add me to the list. stay postive brother.

your comments meant a lot to me. most of my friends just say "so lose weight." yes most of them are skinny. I have met with a dietitian. she had me ona plan for 6 months. I stuck to it, didnt cheat, and I lost 2 pounds. thats when she sent me for blood work because of my family's history of underactive thyroids. the blood came back normal. she tried something else with me where she let me eat fast food 4 times a week for 2 weeks and I kept my exercise routine the same. I lost 6 pounds in those two weeks. she said she has seen it before with other clients where their bodies work almost opposite, but its not healthy for the long term. she was going to try something else but thats when my health insurance ran out (been unemployed since dec 08. they gave me 6 months after i was let go with the insurance.)

my doctor wants to try diet pills when i see him in a few weeks. the px kind. he said the type he is going to put me on if it works it shows i do have some kind of a thyroid problem it just isnt bad enough to show up on blood work yet. just have to see if I can afford the px.

I have heard many different things from different people so I dont know who to believe.

hey style just wanted to say hey im 5 10 and 260 lbs...so we are kinda in the same area...but i might have a lil weight on u. ive often felt unattractive althought i know im a good lookin guy in the face...ppl never really care about that....its all about ur body. both of you guys are lucky to even have a gf cause lol i cant even keep one...and im not sure i ever will not that i care about that as much...i mean i really just wanna be skinnier so i dont have to deal with ppl referring to me as big or large or "fat". it gets so old hearing that. Anyways just wanted to say youre not alone....I never tryed posting on one of these things but i maybe itll help me to express how i feel and talk to others. I usually dont even care how big i am Although i admit i want to be healthy and i know im not currently. I mainly get tired of ppl's comments. hopefully we can all stay positive though.

i guess sometimes we all feel like that. its weird. I know girls who are stick thin and gorgeous and have lower self esteem then I do.

In college I used to get hit on all the time and given numbers. now, 70 pounds heavier, I get nothing. I have a girlfriend so I wouldnt take them anyways but its a confidence boost.

I am going to the doctor next thursday to get a weight loss prescription. He doesnt like how everything we have tried has worked in reverse. eating right and exercising caused me to gain weight. not exercising and eating crap caused me to lose and no it wasnr muscle. I will update this forum on my progress if any one is interested.

As far as the girlfriend thing I have never been a drinker so I dont go to bars. I actually met my girlfriend on match.com. I like it because you can search for people who you fit their criteria. this gave me hope as I put my weight as a few extra pounds and clicked reverse search and was happy with how many good looking, down to earth girls put that down as one of the body types they are looking for in a guy. I say give that or pof.com a shot. pof.com is free and I know a lot of people who have had success with it.

yea i know ppl like that too style....ppl are insecure for all sorts of reasons. it mainly comes from ppl talkin down to ppl....mine has always been about my weight. thats where all my shots came from. i mean i already got pretty thick skin. Alot thicker than most individuals...I think some ppl just doesnt realize what an impact calling someone fat has on them.

Anyways yea that is weird indeed that all that worked in reverse...i know muscle mass is heavier but if it wasnt muscle then i dunno. but im gonna start exercising...i ran a good 5 laps today around my yard..not a great workout but enough to break a sweat. i only had a single porkchop with no bread for breakfast...heh im pretty hungry but i guess ill have to start fighting urges.

i dunno if i should be hungry right now or if its just habit. either way i gotta fight it til i learn the right amount for me to eat.

i started using an elliptical. i always walked 7.5 miles like 3 times a week but the elliptical i sweat a lot more and feel i got a better work out yet when im doing it it doesnt feel too hard to do. i got mine for $170 so they werent that much but def worth a look.

make sure you still eat 3 times a day. eating once or twice, even little portions, actually is worse for your metabolism.

Went to the doctor today. he did an ekg and took my bp, and listened to my heart. he then gave me a px for phentamine to try for 1 month and see if there are any results. he has prescribed them for his own family so when I asked about side effects he said he hasnt seen any in any patient he has prescribed them for except occassional dry mouth and some minor shakes in the hands.

I will start them sunday and update as I go along.
